Thanks to our surace controllher Nigel we had a permit to visit Whitescar beyond the show cave.
A team assembled at the venue via car share or bicycle - this was a very eco friendly trip.
The staff at the show cave were very helpfull and after discretely changing in the toilet block we headed into the show cave. The pathway above the stream on scaffold and grid plate is pretty long and the formations along the route are impressive. We had a quick look in Battlefield Chamber via the blasted tunnel which allows visitors access to this large chamber with long straws, no caver access is allowed via the original boulder choke route - which is why we had asked if we could have a look before getting wet and muddy.
At the end of the walkway we hopped over the railings, I love it when as cavers we get the chance to explore beyond the barriers. The wetsuits are quickly welcomed as it's a pretty damp trip. More to come in the newsletter......
Trip time 4 1/2 hours.
Those along for the swim; Lynne Katz, Phil Hawcroft, Lee Smith, Ariana Preston, Richard (codpiece) Rae, Stu Weston.

Nice one Stu & team, I remember the old days, when having to do the old route! Was extremely entertaining!! went as far as we dare into the 2nd Front passage. This was back in the 80's way before the blasted tunnel. Formations in those days were absolutely awesome!! Hope they are still in good nick. T8.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
