Another good turnout for this trip. With the weather being hot, the bags were packed the night before & the Long Kin rigging team set off early to miss the worst of the heat on the way up the hill.
After a little navigational faff, we found the cave and descended the entrance and made out way along the classic streamway. The peat coating the passage floor under the stream was impressive, though it was soon marked with our footprints.
Stu started rigging down the next pitch, but this did not match the topo. After a quick look around, we discovered the traverse a few metres back in the roof. Given the dry weather, we felt that lower route would be okay today.
Following on from this set of pitches, there was some more streamway before we met a couple of cascades and the main pitches. Stu again rigged these and was followed down by Dave. Ros decided that she would not descend the pitches and would head out, but she had to do without her pantin as it was in Dave's bag. The remainder of the rigging crew were caught up by Rich & Janis who had come up with the rift crew and had descended Long Kin to even up the teams.
While we were descending the final pitches, the rift pot team were having some fun with the rigging. It turned out that they had been given too little rope (by combining ropes which did not meet) and had to find another 10m to get to the floor.
We went to look at the sump, and then Emma, Lukasz & Dave started back out through Long Kin, before the rift team managed to find the required rope and descended for the swap over.
Above ground it was a pleasant day and not as hot as expected.
We wandered over to Rift Pot in time to see Janis, Stu & Rich emerging, meanwhile Keith & Al had emerged from Long Kin East. We then had the long walk down the hill.
The remainder of that team took considerably longer to emerge.
Long Kin East: Stu, Lukasz, Ros, Emma, Dave, Rich & Janis
Rift Pot: Keith, Andy, Kate, Nicola, Ade, Al & James?
Time: Between 3h30 & 6h
