Having persuaded Val that Newby Moss Pot was probably not the trip for her and after some dithering we decided to try Sell Gill.
Paul was injured & Lukasz was not keen on a black book trip, so with Ros that made a group of 5, just enough to do a cross over.
I was keen to rig the Goblin (wet) route and Lukasz was up for rigging the dry route.
We packed the bags and headed over to Horton to park. When we arrived Matt had followed us thinking we were going to Newby Moss.
Having sent Matt back to the hut to join the Newby Moss group, we wandered up the hill.
Arriving at the cave we split into two groups, Paul & Lukasz went into the dry way, while Ros, Val & I went into the wet streamway. The water was fairly low and not a cause for concern.
I had once again forgotten sections of the cave. For a start, the length of passage between the entrance climb down and the first true pitch and then the interesting take off for the first pitch. After that things were remembered okay, though I did rig a bit tight on the first pitch.
Val coped well with her first SRT cave for a while.
When we arrived at the bottom, the dry route crew were already there, waiting to ascend.
We went to have a look at the stream in the bottom but declined the opportunity to do the duck in the cold water.
We returned to the surface via the dry route with Ros derigging.
The trip was a bit of a step up for Val but she coped fine & I think everyone enjoyed themselves (at least after the fact).
Team: Lukasz, Paul, Val, Ros & Dave
Time: 3h30 for our group, less for the others.
