There we supposedly a large number of people doing Simpson Pot on Sunday. So the plan was for an early crew (starting at 07:00) followed by a later group.
When I arrived at 08:45, the early crew had not set off but were just finishing packing the ropes. I joined the early team and we set off just after 09:00.
We found the cave fairly quickly (Lukasz is getting good at finding some caves) and Rich headed off with both bags while the rest of us were still putting out SRT kits on.
We caught him up in the crawl, but lost him again when he climbed down a couple of the pitches, that I was happier with a rope on.
The proper pitches compressed the team, with Rich having to wait for a bag before he could rig the next but one pitch.
I had my normal hilarity on (probably) Shuffle Pot where I don't fit down the normal way and have to go over the top.
We then headed up the red rope to Swinsto Great Aven, somewhere I haven't been before. This is quite well decorated and worth a visit.
The first part of the pitch down was a bit of a pain, but it was much easier on the section after the new belay chain. This final pitch was really impressive and Lukas followed me rotating on the rope to get a good all round view.
Unfortunately his rotation twisted the rope, meaning more faff before we could pull it down.
Doing Swinsto Great Aven bypasses the final messy pitches on the normal route, making it an excellent alternative.

Team: Rich, Lukasz, Lukas, Frances & Dave.
Time: About 3 hours.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
