More enthusiasm for the Sunday trip. Val, Lukasz, Paul & Dave left the hut before 10:00 and headed over to the parking near Jubilee Cave.
When we got there Paul realised that he had left his boots back at the hut and set off to walk back.
The remaining three changed quickly in the freshening breeze before setting off on the long walk to Wizard Chasm.
After one minor navigation error, we arrived at the cave & Val realised that the SRT kit she had borrowed was missing its foot loop & chest harness. We decided that we could work around this by lending her kit when we came to ascending the pitch.
I headed down first and was surprised to find two shiny new hangers over the pitch. I put in a spit for a traverse line to the pitch, but it wasn't really necessary.
Val followed me down, with Lukasz bringing up the rear. We left the majority of our SRT kits at the bottom of the pitch and headed towards YSS rift.
With only a couple of mistakes, we soon arrived at the calcified rope and rusty ladder.
Backtracking slightly we headed up to the Blue Room (I succeeded in getting through the squeeze for the first time).
Having admired the blue formations and the countless helictites around the area, we headed back to the pitch.
We continued to Sandstone Pass, another area which is well decorated and would definitely benefit from some taping.
On the way back to the pitch we found some calcified drip holes where the surrounding mud had washed away leaving some strange calcite formations.
Lukasz lent Val his legloops and chest harness so that she could ascend the pitch. He improvised a set for himself using slings.
When we got out of the cave, it was beginning to drizzle. The rain was getting heavier all the way back to the cars (fortunately the wind was from behind).

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
