I arrived at the hut just before 9:00 and as usual for a Sunday morning, there was not a lot of activity but a lot of indecision.
Following my suggestion of Lost John, TC suggested Rough Pot, a 'sporting' cave next to Lost John.
Having packed the bags (3x10m, 25m & another 10m) we headed over to Leck Fell to find the normal parking area filled with walkers' cars. I managed to park in the area beyond the wall.
We changed and started out on the long walk to the cave. A couple of minutes later, having arrived at the cave, TC remembered a 10m handline for the entrance was useful. We used my 8m bit of tatt tied to a wobbly fence post and added TC's bit of tatt to make it down to the ledge.
We descended the slippery slope to a short section of flat out crawl which soon developed into hands an knees crawling to the first pitch.
TC rigged this and descended. Paul and I had fun trying to turn round in the tight passage to avoid tackling the pitch head first.
The cave continued in a similar fashion (awkward crawl, awkward pitch head and a descent into a pleasant chamber) for a further 3 pitches, the last pitch being a bit longer.
There was a descending tube out of the final chamber to another awkward pitch down to a duck. The duck did not look at all inviting, so Paul and I turned round at that point rejoining TC at the bottom of the 'long' pitch.
We were soon joined in the chamber by Ade, Dave & James who had followed us down. It was a good job that they had caught us up there as I am not sure there was anywhere else in the cave where we could have passed.
The ascent of the cave was a lot easier than I had expected.
Team: TC, Paul, Ade, James, Dave & Dave.
