Another wet Saturday. With little enthusiasm for Short Drop/Gavel (which some of us had done only a few weeks before), we started to think about other trips which would be possible given the amount of rain that had fallen recently.
We eventually settled on Boxhead. Bags packed we headed over to Leck Fell.
I rigged the entrance but Stu took over the real rigging, expertly avoiding the majority of the water. The last couple of rebelays on the way to Kendal Flyover needed re-adjustment to generate enough rope to reach the ledge.
Having arrived on Kendal Flyover, we headed down the hole towards the Cresta Run. After a short pause to allow Matt & Robin to catch up we headed over the holes and down the very slippery passage.
Stu, Matt & Robin went down the tight climb at the end of the Cresta Run, while Martin & I had a look at the muddy passage across the top of the rift. This ended with a knotted rope leading down to the same area as the tight climb.
Stu faffed with the tight climb while Matt came back up the knotted rope. Stu decided that the knotted rope may be easier than the tight climb, which proved to be the case. Robin came back up the tight climb.
We then headed over to Crowbar Pitch. Matt & Robin went to look at Epiglottis Grotto which is down a small passage on the right just before the pitch.
Having regrouped, we headed out of the cave.

Team: Stu, Martin, Matt, Robin & Dave.
Time: About 4 hours.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
