With the damp weather continuing and heavy rain forecast for the afternoon, we decided to save Washfold Pot for another (drier) day.
This left us with the problem of finding another cave which is viable in wet weather. We came up with a trip to Five Ways Pot. This was done by a small team earlier in the year, but with no overlap on the today's team.
Ropes packed we headed off to park at Cold Cotes. The walk up the hill was as strenuous as I remembered but we were kept cool by the icy wind.
Once inside the cave we started to warm up. Matt took the lead rigging the first bag of rope.
Some of the pitches were a bit drippy, the lower scaffolding climb being the worst.
I took over rigging for the second bag, before returning the rigging duties to Matt for the final bag.
A couple of the pitches have slightly awkward pitch heads but nothing we couldn't cope with.
Having got to the bottom of the cave, Matt was persuaded to lie in the puddle that leads to the sump, before we headed out with Andy & Lukasz sharing the de-rigging.
The walk back across the moor was quite chilly with a biting easterly wind. We all failed to find the bog in either direction!
