With a rapidly growing number doing the Dow/Providence through trip, I decided that it was time to jump ship onto one with less people.
Martin was keen on a Diccan trip, Bernice was happy with Diccan as a means of descent, but less happy with the idea of prussiking back out.
So Lukasz and I joined them for an exchange. Martin & Bernice going from Diccan to Alum and us doing the opposite.
We elected to do the Dolly Tubs / Bridge route, so with bags packed (three per team) we headed over to the caves.
Martin failed to jinx the bag packing, ordering or which bag belonged in which set.
I rigged down Alum and we got to the bottom while Martin was just starting on the final pitch of Diccan. So we had the enjoyment of watching him swinging for the penultimate deviation, missing (several times) and swing back into the waterfall.
Bernice was not far behind him. After a few words I set off up Diccan with Lukasz derigging behind me. I waited briefly at the top of the first pitch to collect a bag before heading out of the cave to deposit the bag and going back in for another one.
We were soon out of the cave and heading back to the cars. We changed and there was still no sign of Martin and Bernice. We started to walk back towards the cave and Lukasz eventually spotted them using his binoculars.
They had got caught in a group of students using the Dolly Tubs pitch for rigging practice!

Teams: Lukasz & Dave; Martin & Bernice
Time: About 3 hours; A bit longer

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
