As we were walking in the Lakes on Sunday, decided to stay at the hut saturday night as it meant longer in bed, always a good option!

Fancied doing something whilst we were up there, so packed rope Alum South West. Got up to the cave about 6pm where the glorious sun turned into to freezing cold wind, very odd. Rob was rigging, and I was taking piccy's (not very good ones mind). Really impressive drop! Normally I'm in the dark when I'm up that high, so was mighty being able to look down and see everything! And... A little bit scary too.

We didn't get down the bottom as the last pitch look really really wet and miserable, and it was getting late and food was 'a callin'! (enough excuses?) so we headed out, with me de-rigging. My first trip degrigging a whole cave, and I didn't die! Bonus.

Really nice evening trip dangling on string. My legs were very tired walking in the Lakes the next day, although that could have been the 8K run in the morning... Hmmm....

Party: Rob Dalby and Mel Smith
Trip Time: 1 hour (Maybe an 1hr 30??)

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
