Mike and I always try to climb a hill somewhere on Christmas Day so this year, our first Christmas living in Yorkshire, it had to be one of the three peaks. With the Met Office promising heavy rain from about midday onwards, we got up really early and left the house before sunrise to drive over to Clapham. We parked by the church and headed up to Ingleborough via Trow Gill and Gaping Gill. We met the cloud level a little above GG but the rain held off until we had got to the summit and eaten our sandwiches. It was not a place to linger today though and we were soon heading off down towards Horton in Ribblesdale in the rain.
As we descended, the rain stopped and we had a really pleasant walk back down to Sulber Nick where we turned right and headed back over to Trow Gill. It was now about midday and on cue the rain started in earnest and it was hosing down by the time we got back to the car.
Although we were a little damp, we called in at the Hellie on the drive home to say Happy Christmas to Paul and Carol: we also stuck our heads into the School to wish Alan and his family all the best. Then it was back home for a warm shower, present opening and Christmas dinner.
