A good start to the New Year.....we completed our festive three peaks by going up Whernside. And at last a walk that could be described as a winter walk.

As we headed up Whernside via Blea Moor, we could see white stuff near the summit and we soon discovered that, as well as a reasonable amount of extremely slippy ice on the flagstones, the wind was extremely strong, particularly just below the summit ridge. To avoid the lethal ice, we left the path and battled our way up against the wind on the grass alongside the wall. The summit itself was quite a pleasant, at least when we had sat down in the shelter. After eating lunch, we headed on along the ridge and dropped down the steep side of Whernside towards Chapel-le-Dale, then headed back to Ribblehead.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
