It has been a long time since I sniffed a Yorkshire cave and since I wanted to make use of the two SRT kits I brought with me from Paris, I decided that we should visit Little Hull Pot which offers a good combination of nice caving and nice clear pitches. And to save some time from rigging I asked Jason for permission to use his (YSS) insitu ropes.
Since I already spent some time by wondering around the fells around Hull Pot by searching the entrance, the cave entrance location was super fast this time. It's not easy to leave a wonderful sunny day on the surface. For Steffi this trip almost like a solo caving since she was scared by 'what if' syndrome....which is understandable. Luckily, everything worked like a Swiss watch.
We have quickly reached the first pitch and abseiled down where we swapped our helmets. Without my Scurion I felt like going from Skoda to old Jaguar. I felt like caving blind! Anyway, after some excitement at the balcony overlooking the second pitch we have smoothly descended and found like 5 meters of rope missing so I had to use our spare rope to reach the real bottom of the second pitch. From here we have passed the 'duck', the third pitch and after some small 'navigation issues' we have reached the fine final sump. From here we've made it quickly back to the surface to the glorious sunshine and down to Pen-Y-Ghent cafe for cakes&coffee.
A perfect caving day and I'm proud of Steffi's patience
