Tried the Great Aven route as I'd not done that before and it looked good. First time in Simpson's for Sam too. Comes highly recommended.

More in newsletter.

I gather you met a party who had just abseiled down the Blind Pot, and there was also a rescue from Turbary Pot with a party who had pulled through having mistaken it for Simpson's.

Yeap - friendly bunch from SUSS had a nice detour via the blind pot from their intentions. trip report eventually done so should hopefully make it into newsletter - provided it meets editorial standards.

Where is Turbary Pot? Presume its a seperate system as apposed to one accessed via Simpsons?

Ditto on great trip - was a great try caving trip :P

If walking to Swinsto it is the obvious entrance you pass just after crossing Turbary Road. Unfortunately someone decided to put Petzl resin bolts in at some point. As a result occassionally someone decides it's actually Swinsto (which starts as a crawl, rather than a surface pitch anyway!) and pulls through down the first, then the second pitch .. only to find it doesn't go anywhere. They then have a long wait!

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
