An executive decision taken to pick a trip, resulted in a keen group heading for the traditional ding, doing, bell route down Ireby Fell Cavern on a drizzly Saturday morning. While some inevitable faff occurred at the entrance, Beth set off speedily rigging the rather surprisingly wet entrance series. I had the second bag of rope but dropped lucky with much of it having ropes already in place from EuroSpeleo. The team were soon down in Duke Street having been fairly slick on the pitches, we arrived at the sump in little over an hour. We then nipped up Skylight passage and over the top via the dug out crawl, dropping into the canal leading into Duke Street 2, had a chat about the flooding in of PT and KM on Paul's first wedding anniversary ( We had seen Paul briefly as we left the hut, that incident was 10 years ago!!). We had a choccy stop, then had a steady trip out where I felt duty bound to derig, I do love the gleistein 9mm rope...... shame that was only on one pitch.
Those along, Lucas, Phil H, Beth, Top Cat, StuW.
Trip time 5 1/2 Hours.
Hope Paul and Karen enjoy a lovely 11th Aniversary.
