Not the best of Derbyshire weather for a Titan/Peak through trip but 5 of us met up on a cold and wet Saturday morning. Although Nigel and Baggy had joined us they were not doing the through trip but having a play around the Calcite Aven area then were going to derig Titan. Although we did take all the rope and metalwork to rig Titan, we were pleasantly surprised to find it was rigged.
Although there was a lot of water about it wasn't to wet as we dropped to the bottom , at this point we left Nigel and Baggy and set of on our own trip which was steady going until we got to the junction with Stemple Highway. At this point instead of turning left to go through Stemple Highway we turned right to check if Ride of the Valkyries was rigged and we were in luck, so of we set on our upward journey and as we finally popped out into Fingernail Chamber we decided to have a look at the dig in Western Highway before heading down a very wet Calcite Aven to join back on the trade route to JH. As we got to the duck we were not impressed to find it sumped off, so we set to with the bailing tubs and after 1hr45 we had finally got enough airspace to get through. Even Cow Arse Worms was nearly sumped but we did manage to pass it, once down through the Boulder Piles we were soon at the Speedwell Canal which was well high and flowing very fast. Next stop was the Bung which you could hear before you could see it and when we actually got there it was just a mass off White Water, so hood up deep breathe and go for it, as we got to the Short Bypass the going got a bit easier and the rest of the trip passed without anymore wet surprises and we exited Peak Cavern well before the Carol Concert was due to start.
Trip time 6hrs30

Was pretty impressed with Phil to say how long he's been caving. We did give him a bit of a beasting but he just got on with it and none of it fazed him at all :)

I asked Phil if he fancied a trip to Valley Entrance a while back, I'm glad he was busy, would be mildly underwhelming compared to this!

Thanks everybody for your encouraging comments, it’s all down to the good training of the club.
Cheers Phil.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
