After being left somewhat in the lurch as far as my caving trip was concerned, I went for a bit of a stroll from the School.

For some reason I'd never been to Feizor let alone walked there, so that was my first destination. Feizor wood was superbly beautiful ... loads of little flowers everywhere. I then diverted over Feizor Nick and along the ridge to the trig point. Beautiful views in all directions ... one of the nicest places in the Dales, I reckon.

Then dropped down into Feizor (resisting the temptation for tea and cake in the cafe) before skirting underneath Oxenber Scar and around to Wharfe. From there went up Crummack Dale, detouring via Austwick Beck Head (always worth a look), up to Moughton Scar and its trig point before dropping back down to the School via Foredale.

Coffee, a shower and some biscuits at the School left me ready for part II ... a walk up Long Lane to Penyghent (detouring via Dale Head Pot .. because I wanted to find the entrance) and back via Brackenbottom and a stroll along the Ribble.

A stunning day with views everywhere. The only drawback is that I now have a somewhat sunburnt face ... after all I was meant to be going caving and you don't need sun cream underground!

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
