Not strictly a YSS trip but a joint cavers list 'social' weekend with CRO, UWFRA and Swaledale.
Teams and caves being allocated to encourage a mix of people.
My allocation for the Saturday trip was Penyghent Pot and its well over 15 years (I think) since my one and only previous visit with Jason, Keith and Ann Soulsby.
Back then I was young(ish) and fitter and I remember it being a long and arduous trip even though it was pre rigged. I can confirm that its still a long trip and hard work, but somewhere that was well worth a revisit.
With a strong team of 5 (one bag each) we only had to rig the cave since Sundays group were tasked with the de rig, it still took a good 5 1/2 hours of caving plus the walk up and back which was longer than I remembered.
What a great cave it is and one I will go back to, without leaving it nearly two decades this time, it is however a cold long way from home when you get to the sump and then you have to start the return journey, its not a place to mess with and needs settled weather.
Trip time 5.5 hours. Some litter and old badly damaged tat rope was removed from the cave.
Team: Mark Sims (Cavers List), Stu Weston (Cavers List), Ed Poulter (UWFRA), Rich Hudson (UWFRA), Mike Evans (CRO)
A brilliant bunch of people to be underground with, and a special thank you to the Sunday Derig team (including Adele of the YSS & other clubs)
The walk down in wet gear was absolutely freezing in the wind chill, despite doubling up on thermals - I'm turning Nesh in my old age........ it took many mugs of tea at the Dump to start to warm up and there were some seriously sore knees evident.
