The annual Derbyshire meet was back on the calendar and well attended so several trips ran on both days of the weekend. Nigel fancied a good look around Bagshaw Cavern so our team of 4 was assembled to assist with our Presidents wishes. Keith had arranged permissions and the relevant code to get in. A plaque on the small building which houses the entrance is in memory of tragically lost former YSS member Tony Revell, who I remember well from my early experiences of Derbyshire caving/mining in the 1990's and even t'owd man encounters plus he was a valuable team member on our 90's Berger  Expedition. My only recollection of the cave was the steps down and thinking how cool it was the Tony had a family cave almost in the back garden. Somewhat saddened by fond memories of a wonderful lad, lost to us at far too young  an age, I plodded down the steps at the back of the group.I wasn't expecting much other than mud and was pleasantly surprised by how nice sone of the cave really is, all the best bits being not on the old show cave route. We didn't manage to get hold of the keys for the gated sections and despite a bit of laddering faff, still managed to cave for 4 hours by exploring every bit of accessible cave including many metres along the dive line into 2 of the sumps.A return to visit the gated sections will be required if permissions can be obtained.Afterwards we had a wander around Bradda (Bradwell) and a look at the resurgence, and an Icecream or fishcake depending on preference. Those along were Ros, Sam, Nigel and Stu.TIme Underground  3hours 45 minutes.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
