We had a collection of new/probationary members coming and Cherry Tree Hole was on the calendar, it was felt that this would be okay as a trip.
Having laddered the awkward entrance pitch, one look at 8 passage was enough for Kate, who left for somewhere more spacious taking Stu & Cati with her.
The remainder of the team worked their way up to Double Duck with minor rope work at the new climb and the 4m cascade.
No one was keen to have a swim in the freezing water with a 2" air gap, so we all returned to the junction & went for a quick look at the large chamber.
Then it was back out to a sunny afternoon, this became overcast and windy by the time we were walking back across the fell and hail when we reached the car.

Trip time about 4 hours
Party: TC, Amy, Loz & Dave.

Thanks Dave, TC and Loz for a fantastic trip. Will bring some neoprene for those miserable looking wallows next time :D

We went back up the Cherry Tree hole ladder pitch, which is also quite intimidating and snug for a novice and headed off to The Churns. We salvaged the day for Kate who had driven for 3 hours to join us, with a fun couple of hours caving without any tight bits and just the right amount of water to splash around in.
We then went for a late lunch in the Helly!
A good day was had followed by a training session in the SRT wall with Caiti while I drank lots of tea.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
