Ten people arrived for the president's weekend and the trip to Magnetometer (Damian & Sophie also appeared but the were going to Bull Pot of the Witches. Julie decided to go with them rather than joining the crowd in Magnetometer).
After significant faff we packed 2 small bags and headed off for the farm.
With no-one at the farm only a few chickens & swallows, we left a note for the farmer and headed up to the cave.
After the entrance pitch there were a couple of climbs & a rope drop before the awkward bends. These put me off wearing an SRT kit for the rest of the trip, so we all dekitted and left the second bag of rope behind.
We made good progress until I lost my survey, then we made slower progress (perhaps it was the crawls rather than the lack of survey).
There was some complaining about the water temperature.
Around here we realised that we had split into 2 teams. The A team (Keith, Paul, Phil, Lynn, Eve & Dave) and the B team (Stuart, Nigel, Lucas & Barry). We did not realise until later that Barry had not gone further than the entrance.
The going got easier, with some more options, though the correct route was easily found. We got to Caton hall, had a look at the insitue rope, but our lack of SRT kits prevented descent. So we turned round & met the B team (less Barry) on the way out.
We made good time to the rope climb where we rigged an extra bit of rope to make exit easier. This was quickly passed, only Lynn managed to get stuck (briefly) and we were soon out of the cave (where we met Barry) and heading back to the cars.
An hour later, just before heading back to the cave to see what was keeping them, the B team appeared on the horizon.

A good trip, all type 1 fun!
About 4h30.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
