The weekend was billed as "Try Caving", but we had an excess of experienced cavers, so we arranged a last minute trip down Notts Pot.
After an extended game of "what about" with most of the black book trips being suggested, we settled on Notts Pot and Stu obtained the permit on line.
We packed many bags of rope to allow Adamson's, Central & Twilight to be rigged, plus a bag for the entrance and two to get to the sump.
On arriving at the cave, we found another group planning to blag the cave, we offered them the chance of joining us, on our rope which they were happy to do.
We divided into 3 teams to descend each of the pitches:
Team A (Adamson's) was Dave, Stu & Emma;
Team C (Central) was Phil, Keith, Claire & Rich;
Team T (Twilight) was the blaggers.
The descent went without incident and we soon arrived at the point where the routes meet. Team C arrived first, Phil & Rich continued down to the sump, Claire & Keith waited for the rest of us.
When team B arrived Emma went straight out of Central & Keith went out of Adamson's. Stu, Claire & Dave waited for Team T and all headed over towards the sump pitches.
People abandoned the descent at various points with only Rich, Phil & Stu making it to the bottom.
Team T went up Central, Phil & Rich went up Adamson's and the rest went up Twilight.
We left the cave without incident but with an excess of rope (somehow more than a bag per person).

Time: About 4h30

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
