The Christmas party weekend drew the cavers out in their droves. There were only three (Rich, Phil & Alex R) for the meets list trip of Large Pot, but we also managed trips down Ireby Fell (Keith, Adrian, Claire, Amy, Paul & Martin), Rowten (Alex B + people from the Ario trip) & Alum Pot (Dave, Ros, Caiti, Andy, Sue & Alex W).
After a quick play in the SRT room for Andy, the Alum team paid their trespass fee at the farm and headed up to the lane to change. The weather was dry but chilly with a good breeze. We quickly headed up to the Diccan entrance and cut across to Dolly Tubs. We descended to pitches to the window for the view out into Alum Pot (thought by some to be the best view in Yorkshire).
We then headed back up the pitches and Caiti, Sue, Alex & Andy went to have a look at the Cheese Press. Caiti, Sue and Alex made it through, Andy decided that it was a challenge to far at this stage of his caving career.
We then made our way up the streamway doing the Double Shuffle and the climb above Dr Banister's Hand Basin before exiting from Upper Long Churn.

Time: About 2h30m

Alex has posted some other photos of the trip on YSS facebook.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
