With the team forecast to consist of 19, I thought I ought to check with the cave manager that he was happy for the trip to continue. He was, (though the number dropped to 16 before we got into the cave) so we entered the cave at about 10:00, about 30 minutes before it opened for tourists.
We immediately split into 2 groups the fast people, and the rest. The fast team split again, with one contingent heading straight for the Phreatic Series and the other looking for the Sleepwalker Series.
The slower team made their way though the various bits of deep water to the boulder choke under Battlefield Chamber, where we had a bit of a faff before we found the pipe leading us through. There was then a long section of steamway to near the Hall of Justice, where we met the first of the returning fast teams. Three of them raced past us heading for the exit. The fourth member of that team (Lisa) collected Ros & Stefan from the slow group for a leisurely trip out.
The remainder of the slow team continued towards the Phreatic Series, we were soon joined by the other section of the fast team, who had given up on the slippery slimy traverse, not being convinced that it was the right way to the Sleepwalker Series.
We eventually made it to the sump and turned round for a fairly quick trip out.

Team: James, Phil P, Phil H, Stefan, Sam, Dave, Ros, Keith, Caiti, Lisa, Rob, Neil, Alex, Martin, Long Bob & Tony
Time: Up to 4 hours

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
