Rumbling Hole is known locally as The Faeries Workshop because faeries can often be heard working away with their hammers in the depths of the entrance shaft.  According to our chairman Stu (who is a faery denier) it's water dripping behind a large flake that makes the ringing sound.

The impressive entrance shaft which is 50 meters (160 ft) was first descended in 1899 by the Yorkshire Ramblers Club, presumably on rope ladders.  Even today, with modern SRT gear, it certainly gets your attention with a free hanging re-belay near the top.

Anyway, we managed it and continued down numerous further pitches to the very bottom where we were met by the resident frog.  Everyone refused to kiss it so we left it there as it would have quickly frozen to death on the surface in frog form as temperatures were well down.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
