The long awaited Peak District weekend was upon us.
A few hardy souls (James, Caiti, Nigel & Janis) turned up on the Friday for a visit to Peak Cavern.
Most of the rest of the team turned up later on Friday or early Saturday morning.
Keith had organised a JH/White River trip which was enthusiastically received by Janis, Phil, Bob, Ade & Alex.
Paul who was still recovering from an injury opted for an easier trip in Peak cavern.
And James took the rest of us (Alan, Same Ros & Dave) into the Hillocks/Wharf mine.
Having packed bags for all three entrances, we had a bit of a dither about which ones to do, and then who was doing which one.
Sam was keen to do the engine shaft and followed me down there, the other three elected to do the climbing shaft.
We all met in the chamber at the bottom of the engine shaft and went for a good look around the mine.
Returning the the pitches, we had a similar dither about who was using which shaft on the way out.
Sam was again keen on the engine shaft & followed Ros & Alan.
James led out of the climbing shaft followed by Dave.
Trip time about 3 hours.
Martin had offered to lead us in the gated section of Water Icicle on the Sunday.
This part of the cave is restricted to leader plus four, so we initially thought that two trips would be required to get though all the people who wanted to go on the trip.
As the morning progressed, the numbers dwindled and eventually we only had four (Keith, Ade, Ros & Dave) for the trip.
The formations in the gated section were excellent, it was a shame that none of us had remembered to take a camera. The cryogenic cave crystals where interesting, though not spectacular to look at.
Trip time about 2.5 hours.
James led another trip (including Alan) into Peak Cavern.
I believe a good weekend was had by all in attendance.
Special thanks go to Keith, James & Martin for organising the weekend & running trips.
There are many photos from the various trips on Facebook & Whats App but I failed to take any.
