As part of the 60th celebrations, our president decided that cheese & wine down pikers would be an excellent idea.
It was initially thought that the president was providing cheese, wine & crackers, in the event he provided only wine (mainly 0%) and was crackers.
Other members went into settle to sort the issue with the cheese and crackers and obtain some more (alcoholic) wine.
Another group appeared as we were getting the last of our stragglers down the shaft. They had decided to give Pikedaw a look as the weather was due to be foul and it made a good wet weather trip.
We ended up with 19 people descending the (possibly) 23m pitch into Pikedaw and moving into the neighbouring chamber for the cheese and wine.
A few people ventured further into the cave/mine, but most were happy to eat, drink & leave.
The first people out were greeted by Alan who emerged from the cloud that had encased the fell.
It quite a while to get the whole group out of the cave, by which time the president's light had faded and, unfortunately, he had given his spare to Caver Gnome, who hadn't even come on the trip!
Being left in the dark (last man up) the president failed to notice the large red bag next to the pitch, which was not noticed as missing until we were packing kit into the cellar. Fortunately the other group brought it to the head of the pitch and Ros & Dave to collected it the following day.

Team: Nigel, Dave, Paul, Phil, Liam, Lukas, Paul, Claire, Lukasz, Ade, Emma, Rich, Dave, Aaron, Barry, Chris, Stuart, Ros & Robin
With a guest appearance from Alan.
Time: About 4 hours

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
