Well I suppose we should have a trip report for the through trip for the records !Well the trip through lost Johns needs little description by now suffice to say other than it all went fairly swiftly considering the large group ,
Keith rigged to the bottom the only problem occuring from packing ropes from an old topo leaving us a bit short on crabs !.
Caiti had done some practice on traverses back at base the night before and wafted along the battleaxe traverse pretty effortlessly ,
It did get congested here for a while with us all strung out like washing between the bolts maintaining slightly uncomfortable positions !.
Soon we were down and heading to the fixed rope up to the connection!
First head first then feet first we wriggled like maggots in a rotten apple lucking largely down and gravity assisting our progress , contorting our bodies to match the narrow passage and marveling at the audacity and dedication clearing such a passage scaffolding the dodgy bits with hardly room to move ,
At one point the passages dropped into a tiny chamber just about allowing me to stand upright before once again feeding my feet into the tiny opening at ground level !
Wriggling on back rocks sticking into you spine trying to flow as fluidly as possible but constantly trying to push or pull the tackle bag with the srt kit in!
Eventually we reached thankfully the wet crawls which I knew were near the end and turned out to be not as bad as I thought they were going to be ,
A quick walk along the passage led us to the knotted rope leading down to the notts 2 stream way ,
Soon we were heading up the incredible engineering job of the scaffolded dig of committee pot with its selection of junk wedged behind the scaffold to emerge triumphantly at the surface !
Glad that the trip went smoothly we talked about how much harder it must be in reverse and made a mental note to decline the suggestion to do it one day but then I’m a sucker for an invitation and know that once the memory had faded I’ll probably agree , I mean how much harder can it be !

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
