With a lack of enthusiasm for Yokenthwaite Pot, the trip on the meets list, a different trip needed to be found. I suggested Rumbling Hole, a trip I have not completed since 2008. Everyone jumped at that option.
We quickly packed the bags and headed over to Leck Fell. The parking area was busy with another group doing Lost Johns' and a third group going to Short Drop & Gavel.
We changed quickly and headed across to moor directly to the cave.
I remembered the first two pitches from a couple of years ago when we were supposed to de-rig it but there was too much water to get any further than the end of the first rope!
After that, I remembered nothing of the cave, none of the slightly awkward pitch heads, interesting climbs and squeezes while on the rope. I put it down to selective amnesia.
I ran out of rope after the second bag and had to wait for the third bag to arrive. This had been used to belay Robin, a relative novice, passed the reblay near the surface.
Armed with the final rope, we soon got down to the sump, which none of us were keen enough to push.
The rope above being clear with no sign of Robin & Paul, I started out.
I met Robin at the bottom of the first pitch, apparently he had got as far as the squeeze part way down the third rope before seeing my light coming back up & turning round.
We were soon all back at the cars having enjoyed a fairly quick trip.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
