A good turn out for the AGM caving. We had groups down Notts Pot, Notts 2 (Damian, Sophie, Val, Nigel, Grace, Matt & Martin), Gavel Pot (Keith, Stu & Bean) & Swinsto (Ray, Janis, Matt & Caiti).
With the intention of doing Notts Pot and an exchange and visiting the sump we divided into 2 groups. The first with ropes for the entrance, twilight & the lower streamway; the second group only had ropes for Adamson's.
After a bit of faff finding the cave, we quickly descended the entrance pitches and were soon heading into the twilight/left hand route maze of passages.
Twilight route starts by going up to Y hang with a splendid descent supposedly via a deviation to the second hang of left hand route. I missed the deviation and landed earlier on the left hand route ledge and rigged the traverse out to the Y hang. Everyone enjoyed the spectacle of me trying to rig the Y hang, which is higher than is comfortable and quite exposed.
I then missed the side passage and went straight to the floor via a (natural) deviation to avoid the water. This route seemed to have more in common with left hand than twilight. It was a good job that we had taken an 80m rope instead of the 55m + 25m given on the topo or there would have been an interesting know pass.
We all started along the lower streamway. I climbed up a bit late, missing the first few bolts and then failed to spot strange Y hang for the pitch. It needs to be rigged as a triple hang to get the rope to hang nicely down the pitch.
At this point I passed the rigging onto Andy, who (as far as I know) rigged to the end of the cave.
I returned to the point where the routes meet, with Ros, Robin & Alan all of whom felt they had done enough without going down into the damp lower streamway. We did not have long to wait for the Adamson's down group to appear before we could start on our wat out via Adamson's route.
We made reasonable time on our way out, leaving the derigging for Paul & the Andys. When we got to the surface James was already there having stormed his way out via "twilight" route.

Team 1: Dave, Ros, Paul, Robin, Andy, Andy, Lukasz & Alan
Team 2: Klaudia, Dave, Ade, James & Lukas
Team 1 advanced exit time: About 4 hours

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
