With Dave and Ros due to arrive around 12:30, a few of us decided to go for a walk in the sunshine over to Cwm Dwr and the top entrance of OFD. Once they arrived we all grabbed a quick bite to eat, packed a bag and got ourselves sorted.

We then did the long (ish) walk (about an hour) over to the hole with only minor navigational challenges experienced.

David grabbed the bag and rigged the open pot hole down into the main chamber.

We had a decent explore, took some pictures in pretty chambers and I had a quick sprint down to the sump. After checking the survey when we got back, we realised we’d missed one of the prettiest chambers.

James de-rigged on the way back out and then it was time for the longish walk back.

On the trip: James B, James B (yes, two different ones), David C, Ros, Dave W.

Trip time: 2 hours 40 mins
Walking time: 2 hours

Overall trip score: 3/5 (a reduced score due to the walk to cave ratio, at least it was sunny)

Is Pant Mawr a three or four pitch cave? I seem to remember having been there but also it was fairly difficult to find.

It has a single entrance pitch with a rebelay just over the edge.

You're probably thinking of Pwll Dwfn, a Yorkshire pothole that's got a bit lost and relocated itself in S. Wales. 5 pitches (IIRC) on continuous rope. On the hill above Dan-yr-Ogof showcase.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
