Damian said he was coming to the hut with Sophie on Wednesday/Thursday and would organise easy trips for anyone who was interested.
I was at a loose end on Wednesday and asked if I could tag along.
It ended up with only the three of us, so I suggested Boundary Pot with exit via Spiral Staircase & Wretched Rabbit. After querying the suitability of the trip for Sophie, he was happy to give it a go.
It being a non-SRT trip, we jettisoned most of that kit only taking harnesses & cow tails.
Following the long walk to the cave (not as uphill as the walk to Gaping Gill) we dropped into the entrance chamber of Boundary Pot.
This was a new entrance for Damian & Sophie. I had done the first section before and the section from Fusion Cavern but had failed to make the connection.
Carefully following the directions we were soon crawling in low passages part filled with water. This improved when we got to the watershed and then the short climb down to the top of the 10m drop.
This was where we reached on our trip in March. Following the climb down, it was a fairly easy crawl & walk (with a few short climbs) to Nagasaki.
After a quick visit to Easter Grotto, we headed down to Assembly Hall, Thackray's Passage and Holbeck Junction. We then had the fun of finding the lower end of Spiral Staircase.
We eventually did this by going upstream to the final pitch of Pool Sink then heading downstream past the Bacon Slicer and looking for a passage on the left.
We found a dead end passage which it was possible to climb a few metres before its end. A traverse round a pit took us to the lower end of Spiral Staircase.
Not having SRT kits, we used the longer route. This has a few awkward moves before joining the SRT route for an easy passage to the boulder climb just inside Wretched Rabbit.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
