The previous evening Ade had suggested we head to Turbary Pot. It would be Sophie's first time in Turbary Pot as well as her first pull-thru. For Ade it would also let him have a look at the bolt climb up to the Strike Series, a recent Lugger recommendation. The scene was set.

Kingsdale looked stunning as we headed up the hill. It was like spring. We were underground shortly after 10am and were soon pulling down on the first pitch. The second pitch follows straight after, landing at the top of the scaffolded shaft marking the breakthrough point into Swinsto a few years ago. The shaft is quite short and we are soon following the stream in horizontal crawling passage. The going is mostly easy but there are a couple of tighter sections to ensure a good soaking. In a few minutes we arrive at the junction with Swinsto and one of my favourite sections of passage anywhere.

I'd not seen the new bolting in Swinsto until now and it was interesting to see that the final pitch now takes the opposite side. It's definitely an improvement over the old scrappy line.

After a quick detour in Great Aven to see Lugger's climb, we headed to the Master Cave and back to the surface, Sophie recalling her first trip there as a 2 1/2 year old. Thanks Ade - a nice trip.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
