Having had a look at Shrapnel a couple of years ago when Ros got I bit stuck, I was dubious about whether I would fit.
I thought it would be better for me going down, so I set off rigging.
The first section is a bit damp & thrutchy and then there is a snug pitch head which opens into a large rift. Probably a continuation of the Hunt Pot rift.
It was definitely drippy on the way down with water coming from both side. Lukasz and I passed the side passage that links to Hunt Pot and continued to the bottom.
We the prussiked back up to the connect and crawled through a waterfall to the head of a pitch down to the bottom of Hunt Pot. There were two short pitches that I had forgotten about and for which we had not brought rope.
I headed back to retrieve the rope from the lower pitches so that we could join the others at the bottom of the cave.
When we got down, Abigail was the only one at the bottom. Charlotte had had a problem at one of the rebelays and Matt had gone back up to help.
We were soon all at the bottom of Hunt Pot. After a brief chat about how to find the pitches I had de-rigged for the rope, we parted company.
Abigail, Charlotte & Matt set off up the connection pitches and re-rigged the lower sections before heading out. I headed up Hunt followed by Lukasz who was de-rigging.
Once on the surface, we had a bit of a wait for the others to appear.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
