For another stage in the SRT learning curve for James, went in Eldon Hole for a nice evening trip. Went in via the North wall as a few more obstacles on this route, once down the main pitch we made our way into the main chamber and did the pull through up into Damocles Rift for a look at the pretties before turning round and making our way back to the surface.
Trip time 2hrs30
James Finch, Keith Mason

Which is the North side? Is that the one nearest the gate? Maybe I'm lazy but that's where I also went down. Probably because it was nearest the gate.

Ian, if memory serves me right North Wall is opposite South wall :P
But on a more serious note it is the one furthest from the gate and starts off with a muddy/grassy scramble down a gully.
Cheers Keith

North wall is the one without the exposure until you are halfway down:S

South wall it is that I went in then, with the rebelay in the middle of nowhere making it actually a bit of a sudden realisation that 100mm rope seems really thin.

Never have that problem in the dark!

Blimey! No wonder you don't go caving much ... your tackle sacks much weigh a tonne!

In Eldon there are a couple of in situ ropes for for climbing up inside the cave, these were 10.5mm and looked as thick as sausages after the 9mm we had come down on.

9mm is just not right. 11mm at least, espeically leaving it from the entrance.

I wouldn't like to carry 11mm for Juniper Gulf though.

There's not many cavers on these trips, just the hardened few who have nno friends so have to spend their evenings in holes.

Does anyone ever go climbing in YSS?

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
