White Pit is just South of Priddy towards Ebor Gorge and Wookey Hole situated a short walk in a clump of trees on the left hand side. After negotiating the Wheat crop and the broken style it was time for the horse fly’s to take advantage of sweaty cavers, they seam to like my blood for some reason must like the taste of Butcombe. The entrance shaft was already rigged with a ladder so we soon descended into cooler passage and horse fly free. Mark told me and Mac to go and rig the return leg with to ladders; well we rigged a pitch but the wrong pitch so after bringing Mark along we established the right pitch to rig and all 3 of us descended. At the bottom their was a small chamber and a fixed rope which should have been our way down, after a look around Mark retreated up the ladder leaving me and Mac to climb the rope a tricky free climb this way and a hand jammer would not of gone a miss. Mac free climbed out while I gave Mark a hand with the ladders, then to tackle the horse fly’s. Very pleasent trip with digging potential!

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
