Brilliant turn out of 14 people and a nice day for the walk up, after some route finding problems :( at the start we soon found the right way on. Unfortunately at the start of the Wet Crawl several people decided to turn round and only three of us made it to Caton Hall just before our cut off time. On the way back out we went and had a look at Styx Sump.
Trip time 4hrs
Alex, Sue, Nigel, Andy, Tony, Pete, Gordon, Jane, Mike, Julie, Fiona, Carl, Stu, Keith

look for a pipe in the stream bed, about 15 to 20 mins walk past farm. Keith and team rigged up a pitch using ladders and saftey belt with an Italian hitch (i think) - lots of crawling easy to get lost as we did, some very tight squeezes down there. Look for the rope on the left (5mins in) it will lead you to Caton Hall. only three made it (Keith, Stu and Susan, even though the 14 (YES 14) of us did not all make it we had a fantastic look around and spent some time underground.

The weather was fantastic and 11 mucky cavers had time to do some sunbathing.

Maybe next time.

PJ.

Good news is that I had a really great days caving! It did however convince me that Magnetometer is not really my sort of cave:unsure: Far too much crawling for me :(

Playing at sardines in the crawls whilst we waited for Keith to sort out his route finding was fun. Also lazing around in the sun whilst we waited for the hardened 3 cavers to return from their longer sortie was also enjoyable.

Some pictures are up on my facebook account. The albums web address is

Enjoy !B) and hope to see you again soon on another trip up from here in Cambridge!

Even after thorough sponging down my shiny new oversuit looks well used - Magnetometer was just the job for breaking it in!:)

Hi anyone else getting a 'Invalid code message' coming up after trying to submit quick replies?
Any way try again

Magnetometer
Intresting little crawly cave.
Everyone was setting off down all the passages we could find; which was fun trying to keep track of who was where and which passages had already been tried etc.
It was a bit of a relief to rejoin Keiths party though!
Amazing turnout but I wonder if 14 of us was probably too many? for this type of cave?

A Big thanks to Andy and Tony for our lift and entertainment for the day.... Give us a shout out if you are up here again for caving Andy.

Thank you to Keith and Stuart for thier dedication

... It may have taken a while to work out the directions, but Keith did and once
we worked out where we were ie in 'four directions junction?'; then the way on was obviously down and throught the rift.
Through a very tight squeeze to a rope. Down the rope to another tight squeeze. And then a fairly tight tube. - With an entertaining S at the start, going into another tube which was half the size of the first tube!
Susan and Keith had already gone on. I did n't fancy it much so went back. Before I got trapped by 11 people following on. Stuart went to join Keith and Susan. we returned to the surface with Andy doing the occassional spider man impression.
Then we had a few hours on the surface in the sun - lovely! whilst the intrepid three came back from -_______ cavern?
Enjoyable day prefer the caverns to the crawly ones though! Ok if means towards an end. Good experience though!

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
