With a record turn out at the school on Saturday morning, an alternative to Magnetometer was obviously going to be required. The fine weather offered a good opportunity for a trip to Meregill and a keen party was soon formed. Water levels looked to be low so we opted for the Mere entrance – until Emma joined me in the waist deep water looking at the hand line disappearing into the duck!
After some obligatory faff Sam soon had the Aven entrance (Little Meregill having been discounted for some reason) rigged and we were finally on our way. In order to satisfy the canyoning element of the party we opted to stay as close to the water as possible and the superb pitches definitely didn’t disappoint. From the last pitch, we followed the fine streamway until the crawl indicated the sump was not far away and then looked forward to the burden of our saturated 11mm on the way out! However this was soon forgotten as the gorgeous late afternoon sunshine provided a fitting end to a great trip.
Party: Richard, Emma, Bez, Isla, Sam
