As they only issue three permits a year it would have been a shame not to attend this one.
And so it was that a group of us ended up being stood outside the kitchen window waiting to descend. The other bonus to this trip was that we had got one of the guy's who originally explored this cave to its limit back in the 70's :)
Very interesting system and a very impressive streamway, with the connection into the wormway being extremely interisting.
Trip time 3hrs45

What a great day! Thanks Nigel for leading and organising.
It's got to be one of the most unusual entrances I've seen... A manhole under the kitchen window of the farmhouse! (How on earth the wall crossing the top of the pot hole is being held up I don't know).

It was good to hear the history of this particular cave from some real experts! These guys had been measuring and monitoring all sorts in it for many years.

Very reassurring to benefit from thier knowledge ..except for when they corrected our path ....we had at first rejected the way on as too small to crawl through..... they then assured us it was the right way!

Some new experiences for me - water in tiny crawly bits of the cave
.. as well as water up to the neck, when walking 'normally' - with the cave roof scrapping on the helmet. The cold certainly reaches the parts that other beers can't reach.

Great day thanks to everyone who went! Can't wait for the next one.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
