Dolly Tubs - Alum Pot
Saturday,12th December 2009

A small trip soon swelled in numbers, so we decided to split into a rigging and a derigging team.

The rigging team had the luxury of parking at the top of the lane and were soon underground. To give our budding SRT'ers lots of practice I chose the most awkward route down at all points and they did a superb job ... apart from the deviation! Remember - never face them or you have to do a chin up, turn your back and use your legs to push you towards it.

Upon reaching the sump, we about-turned and were soon greeted by a lovely blue sky high up above the shaft .. very nice.

Met the derigging team at the base of the Dolly Tubs and a team from York Uni at the top.

Rigging Team: Alex, Susan, Gordon, Chris & Damian
Derigging Team: Rob, Dave, James & Paul

What a great day. Really enjoyed it. Even it did terrify me to drop that far.... in daylight. It's a lot easier in the dark! That's my excuse for forgetting to face away from the deviation!

Big thanks to Damian for leading/coaching.

Thanks to Alex for bussing us ALL back!

Fantastic trip!
It's the first time I've done Alum and it was at truly awesome view from Dolly tubs into the pot.

It was hard work hauling 4 rope bags back (between 2 of us) but at least we had hot food waiting for us back at the hut - Cheers Nigel!

Apologies to Paul and Fish who, having left their car keys in my car, had to grab a lift back and sit around in their undersuits until we made our way out!

I don't think I've ever faced not a deviation! You make it sound very difficult.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
