Getting up onto Leck Fell was not a problem for us as Paul was in his Jimney and i was in my Trooper although i was towing Julians fiesta :) Once at the car park and changed it was off for a stomp through the snow and when we got to the shakhole, we realised we would not get down the 4th pitch as we had to use this rope to get in the shakehole  after having first made a way through a 6ft cornice of snow, although the 20ft icicles around the edge of the shakehole were pretty impressive.
After dropping the 2nd pitch and the boulder climb we made our way downstream to the top of the third pitch, but decided against doing this due to time constraints. then on the way back out we went for a detour and had a good look in Glasfurd Series befoe exiting for a cold walk back to the cars.
Trip time 3hrs
Ian, Ian, Julian, Paul, Nigel, Keith

I'm glad we came out in daylight, if it had been dark I would have felt like a polar explorer trudging across endless snow. Lost my elbow pad somewhere too :(

It was an old knee pad which is why it was a bit big, my arms aren't as big as my legs anymore. so if anyone sees a knackered knee pad lying around somewhere about Gavel Pot, please don't curse the caver who dumped his crappy knee pad, it's a genuine loss. I had a look but decided scratting around for it might make getting changed a very slow business as my fingers were slightly icy.

Fun trip though, it's been a while since I've seen a bat underground  and the frozen water was impressive in the entrance hole, frozen waterfalls, huge icicles which are remarkably scary when you're beneath them, thanks chaps.

Don't be silly Damien, it's most certainly not the same bat so it would be the first time it had seen me underground :silly:

Nice to meet you Paul, sorry about your tow rope. I noticed your Scouting sticker on the jeep, I've sent a pm.

Good to meet you Ian. In my business a PM implies a Post mortem, hope this differs in scouting parlance:)

Ooof! Private Message in this instance. I'm after some tips and suggestions for talking to a load of scouts about caving.

I was going to start by saying there are loads of girls who go caving, just watch the Descent.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
