Dave N and I took a quick jaunt down Aquamole at the weekend.

After a long, calf killing hike up the side of Kingsdale we found the entrance with relative ease.
Dave rigged the entrance pitch and continued down through Rabbit's graveyard. A nice little route, not too tight, not too long, plenty of rebelays to keep us interested. Found some prerigged rope on these pitches but it didn't look too healthy.

The next part was the worst, the crawl itself is not especially tight but it goes on and on and lugging a tackle bag with 90m of rope was a pain. Nice passage though and we soon got to the 3rd pitch and then to the Aven

Aquamole aven is quite spectacular. We got to the bottom, had a quick look at the sump (\"look, a sump\") and then headed back up. Glanced at a bit of a traverse that was rigged just above the sump but it was difficult to get to and we decided just to head out.

Bumped into a couple of guys at the top of the Aven who were waiting to descend, passed them and headed out.

Derigging the first 2 pitches was a bit of a pain due to the presence of the other rope which , in a constricted shaft, kept getting twisted around the tackle bag.

Exitted the cave around 3pm into nice sunshine where we met some orienteers doing a tour of the Kingsdale cave entrances.

All in all, a nice short trip!

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
