Walked to Mossdale cavern from Yarnbury as this seems to be the 'cavers' chosen route. Day was brilliant sunshine with good snow underfoot. found the cairn near Preists Tarn that marks the spot where the bodies were found in 67 (they were some 500ft below moor level).
Mossdale looked brilliant in the snow, the beck was low and ran into the scar at its South end. At 3PM the sun shone brilliantly, the crystals in the snow burning brightly, like a billion blazing diamonds. It was an absolute pleasure to walk in. Saw my first Shrew at the cave enterance, very quick, moving continuously in and out of the freezing beck, an amazing little animal. Wonder where he gets his calorific value in such a cold and seemingly barren environment. Walked back over the tops. Time taken 4 hours.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
