Lancaster hole 14/3/09
Four of us set off to do the wilftaylor passage and Montagu cavern route , one down Lancaster hole rigged by Nigel we had a quick trip up to the colonnades then over to fall pot for the decent down to the master cave and a quick look at the sump before climbing up wilf taylor way via double-decker pot and on to have a look at the downstream side of bpotw sump , a quick trip through cross passage to have look to see how much water was flowing down that passage as there wasn’t any flowing out of bpotw sump . then it was off for a crawl down Montagu cavern (can I say at this point I’ve done this trip twice but always the other way round so doing it in reverse was a challenge and I didn’t have a survey so was doing it from memory) this is where it went a bit wrong I missed the turning to the left and me and Nigel ended up having a crawl up the passages to the Saturday afternoon series before giving up and turning round. it was after this I noticed the turning we should have taken so off we went back on the right track hahaha. I had trouble finding the little ladder that I knew we had to climb down so after a quick chat and a rest we all decided to head back the way we had come, as i sit here righting this report and looking at the survey (I should have taken) I now know the hole I was looking at before we turned round would have taken us to the ladder and back into cavern at fall pot , sorry guys
Anyway the return trip gave us a chance to do double decker pot again and another fine amble up the master cave before heading out
Trip time 4hrs ............ Paul , Nigel , Alex , Sue

Good trip paul, next time we could go via Montague and the ladder and maybe into waterfall passage. I like the idea of Woodhouse way tho, they (Kendal CC) say that it is a connoisseurs trip:)
Lesson learnt while derigging, i used crabs onto hangers and could not undo screwgate. Alex shouted down to clip in with cows and load the crab, this i did and the gate unscrewed easily. Nice one Alex:)

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
