A quick trip to the further reaches of this exciting dig. Debris from last visit cleared. Nigel ventured into number one passage with the bosch and two bits. He drilled two holes in roof, passage was flat out and muddy (live the dream). The holes were drilled to 45cm depth the meter long bits were fitted onto the Bosch the idea bieng to drill both holes to that depth:) Unfortunately could not get the end of bit anywhere near hole, the angles of holes and depth of passage were all wrong (i blame the size of the passage)so had to stop work in no 1 pasage:(
No 2 passage had a rock that needed drill attention unfortunatly this passage also restricted and full of water. Battery and water = not a good equation. Cavers exit early afternoon thoroughly dischuffed with events
A joint mission included Nigel (YSS), Richard (Kendal) and Phil (WRCPC)

Friday 26th March - Sp8 returned today armed with 6 battery's one pump one drilling machine - Bang and assorted tools,One hours pumping in passage number 2 did not lower the water level enough to drill. So passage number one was examined, the two holes that Nigel had drilled were charged up a retreat made.and fired off - well satisfied with the noise it was back to the car with all the gear What happened Nigel thought you were coming today
trip time 2.5 hrs

Monday 29th March - A Speight & Richard Mercer ( kcc ) - Pump set up to clear water in No2 passage whilst we cleared out the debris from no1 passage. In spite of reservations re the placement, depth and position of Nigels holes they were spot on & we easily got to the end of the passage & the draughting slot in the floor.ready for excavating the next section.
One hour pumping had cleared the water from no2 passage & we were able to drill the boulder blocking the way on. a retreat was then made & the boulder POPT. Trip time 2.5 hrs.
There was even time to go help move a shed

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
