Saturday the club meet was scheduled for Vespar. Been of a build that equates to a few too many pies...Big Boned. I opted for a more open entrance.

My self and Rob decided to do Sell Gill the dry entrance as we had already enjoyed the Goblin route many months before.

We were extremely lucky as the craven club allowed us parking in there little area and off we set.

Having brought a 15 meter rope for the first entrance pitch i decided to mess around and practice \"group\" rigging systems. As i peered over the edge to view the rubble at the base I saw that the rope was clearing the ground. I glanced back to rob and jokingly added we may have to do a \"moose\" and jump for it.
Robs facial expression was hilarious.
Very bemused to see the full array of practice bolts available at the head of the 2nd pitch. It looked like a join the dots puzzle.

2nd and 3rd pitch easily behind us we trudged off further into the cave.
Having only ventured so far on our first wet visit rob was trying to recount a description earlier given to him by Chris Tate. We arrived at what was obviously going to be a wet crawl but convinced ourselves that this must be the end of the cave. An hilarious battle of wills ensued. the blind leading the blind and both of us frightened of getting our toes wet. Rob leant down and in to see if the passage way went on any further and if it was worth getting wet over a few extra meters. Whilst I egged him on with encouragement. \"It's a long walk back to the car in wet clothes. I'm sure that this is all that’s here shall we go to the pub?\" What a wimp I am eh?

I thought I heard Rob shout back that that was a good idea so i was about to turn around and head home when I heard, \"SPLASH\". Need I say any more.

The resulting trip was fantastic with some close ground dragging over loose rocks and rubble stones. We managed to investigate a hell of a lot more. From scrambling up an in situ ladder (Pls bring harness) to squelching around in high mud passageways.
Our trip ended at a drop. Allowing the mist and steam to settle I could make out that a large cavern lay beneath and off to the right. I turned to Rob and said. \"Did Chris mention a rope and a drop?\" Robs reply was a negative.
We started to make our way back. On the way we practiced snatch rescues on the third pitch and pitch head hauling on the 2nd pitch before out and down to the car.
We got back to the hut and before I could say anything I was greeted by Chris who said. \"I forgot to mention you needed a rope for the last drop.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
