I arranged a long awaited event in this years calendar.
The training officer arranging an SRT training day for members.
The training was organised with Rob Alex and Sue.
We went in through Yordas middle entrance and I also rigged double ropes in the top entrance (separated by the deviation options.)

Alex set about rigging the 2nd pitch of the middle entrance as per the rigging guide when i began to set him a few challenges that enabled him and the others to address issues around rope management, pitch head safety and eco hangers. This done we advanced to the third and final pitch...sometimes used as a pull through if the lower route is gained. We opted for the high rigging route with incorporated 2 traverses and 2 pitches with a \"lovely deviation. We looked at main minor possibilities and scenarios.
Some where the right amount of krabs wasn't available etc.... and others where slings could be used as temporary measures etc....
Alex was able to incorporate many different pitch head rigging systems to cater for different groups or abilities or conditions. And simple tools used to help apply deviations or pass them.

Rob and Sue descended the last route and went out. Alex and myself went back up with Alex doing all the de rigging. This gave him the opportunity to see how some pitch head rigging systems were more user friendly than others. We the made our way to the top entrance to meet with Rob and Sue to descend to do some mid rope rescues.
Alex returned to the car and finally opted out of the rescues as he was totally drained. I met up with the others at the _base_ of the shaft where we commenced in doing a few rescues.
I had installed a 2nd rope along side in order for both Rob and Sue to alternate as a spectator.

We covered unconscious casualty in mid decent and mid ascent. I demonstrated prusiking up beneath the casualty (Sue) and mid rope hoisting to disengage her from the rope and then a change over to descend on my descender.

The day was a great success and look forward to continuing the training with Alex and Sue...But also the rest of the club.

What can I say, Dave sugested that I may be being a tad over cautious when I insisted on using 3, 4 or even 5 points of protection whenever I could find something to clip into, cows tails, chest jammer, hand jammer, a spare bit of string around a flake anything and everything was pressed into service to keep me fastened to tha wall, rope, pbolt or flake of rock. I know I am a softie and I should trust my gear. Dave correctly pointed out that all I was doing was wasting energy and I would be worn out if I continued, Dave you were so right, I was knackered by the time I got out. Lesson learned. I also learned that I have a lot more to learn and I will be taking every opportunity to join in training sessions in the future. A good day though. Thanks.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
