Had a word with Dave Ramsey who gave us a few pointers for this trip, and then we were off.
Parked in the usual place by the stile, cause we can ;)
As both places were already rigged it meant no gear apart from SRT kit, went in Rift (that's new Rift, Nigel) and made our way down Route 66 into Coates Cavern then onto the start of Pleasure Dome.

It was at this point that Stu decided to turn round and exit back out of Rift, so we then carried on and made our way through to the Temple of Doom and the extensions. This involves a varied assortment of caving, consisting of hands and knees crawling, flat out crawls and thrutches.
Pretty soon we arrived at the first squeeze which involved me dropping the top half off my under and oversuit off, once through this and kitted back up we set off again through a wet craw and a flat out section, as the passage opened up again we soon arrived at the second squeeze (Point Squeeze).

Having failed to get through this with my kit on, it was time to strip off again to under crackers and T shirt, even then it was still very bloody tight, but a bit of verbal encourage from Ian helped and pretty soon i popped through.
After this it was easier going for a while, but then it starts with a flat out mud floored crawl that soon turns into a squalid mud floor that then turns into a flat out cobbled floor crawl with water in it, lovely
Once through this and its only a matter of minutes before you pop out into sensibly sized passages of Ireby, all that was left then was the steady meander out using Bubbles Route as our exit

Trip time 4hrs30
Stu Weston, Ian Walker, Keith Mason

Well done Keith & Ian, Is this the first ever trip from Rift to Ireby by anyone other than the original diggers? :silly:

I saw the state of Keith when they got out, and was glad to have made the call to exit Rift, I was in no way  cave fit enough to cope with that kind of punishment, some people do this for fun too!
Well done to Keith and Ian, hope you managed to get clean before you went out on Saturday night.

why is everyone congratulating US? it's the diggers and sureveyors who need the praise, we just went along for a tourist trip when all the action was over.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
