After a not so earlyish breakfast and the drive over from the bunk barn to the car park on the Rhosydd side, by the time we had got changed and the very scenic walk up it was the crack of noon before we were ready to go underground.
As we started in from the Croesor entrance, it wasn't long before you realised that this was a very impressive place, and after negotiating a couple of inclines and small climbs we found ourselves at a window which leads to the first pitch, this drops you into a huge chamber floored with large fallen blocks of slate, very impressive :woohoo:
After crossing this chamber we arrived at the second pitch and after replacing the rope (old one sh****d  ) we were all soon down and onto the first zip wire  once across this we arrived at the first lake, nice to find a boat there and good to go although somebody did get wet  , once we were all across we carried on again through big large passages and chambers onto the next obstacles, 3 dubious looking bridges, one crossed by zip wire the other two on dubious looking traverses.
Once across these it was more big passage, passing more large chambers and flooded lower levels to arrive at the second lake, which involves an abseil down into the boats, again nice to find boats there and good to go. Once across the lake there was a short prussik out of it to gain yet again more big passage.
From here it was all downhill so to speak as we made our way towards our exit, did have a couple of detours as route finding was a bit sketch in this area but it was nice to see some of the old machinery and equipment that has been abandoned in there.
As we carried on passing over large roof collapses and passing several large chambers open to daylight we soon found the Rhosydd adit and our exit point, was nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel getting larger and larger as we got closer to the end :)
All in all a very good trip but we did think it was over hyped in some of the write up's we had read on it. Certainly not the most dangerous thing we had ever done

A great trip, and not as scary as some reports make out. Its a bit airy all the same, very Indiana Jones style of mine trip - but with less screaming.
The zip wires are great fun - we need some of those in Yorkshire caves (or maybe we should not spoil our caves - lets put them in Derbyshire instead).
The water was a tad cool if you ended up getting a dunking - a kids dinghy is not designed for those sorts of speeds and doesn't plane very well :silly: .
Nice scenic walk in too.
Cheers chaps.

As you say it was not the most scary thing. Getting a shed building pass from Lesley was a lot more scary

A zip wire in......emmm .... how about main chamber GG! Now THAT would be FAB

Did anyone see that video [UTuBE? ]
I think it was in a French? cathederal where there were loads of zip wires going everywhere - I can't remember where I saw it.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
