Nice one mate, a job well done. How long does it take you to do one bolt? Mr Beck is back in the Dales, have you seen his new thread on UK Caving?

No easy answer to this. It depends many things, such as: whether they are easy to access; whether there are other nicely available belay points (e.g. spits) or not; whether I am replacing existing bolts and, therefore, have to remove them first; whether they are all in one place or spread around, in which case everything has to keep being packed and unpacked.

Putting in new bolts near to existing spits along an easy traverse and pitch with all the rock in good condition and placements, therefore, easy to determine, would be about 20 minutes per bolt I suspect. Replacing existing bolts can take much longer.

I guess a reasonable average would be 30 mins per bolt including all the packing and unpacking and everything else.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
